Leet Speak Translator
Turn normal text into leet speak (1337) with numbers and symbols for letters. Copy an easy version or a hard one. Free, runs in your browser.
How it works
Letters are replaced by numbers and symbols that look like them. Easy leet swaps six letters: a to 4, e to 3, i to 1, o to 0, s to 5 and t to 7. Hard leet swaps twelve: a @, b 8, c (, e 3, g 6, h #, i !, l 1, o 0, s $, t + and z 2. Capital and small letters are treated the same, and every other character, such as digits, punctuation, accented letters and emoji, stays as it is.
Example: “Leet speak” becomes L337 5p34k in easy leet. “Hello World” becomes #3110 W0r1d in hard leet.
Frequently asked questions
What is leet speak?
Leet, or 1337, is an informal way of writing that swaps letters for similar-looking numbers and symbols. The word comes from “elite”.
Can I translate leet back to normal text?
Not reliably. The same symbol can stand for several letters, for example 1 for i or l, and real numbers would be changed too, so this tool only converts to leet.
Which version should I use?
Easy leet stays readable and works well for names and captions. Hard leet changes more letters and is harder to read.
Will it work in a username or password?
Digits and many symbols are accepted in most usernames, but check the rules of each site. Leet swaps are well known, so do not rely on them to make a weak password strong.
Is my text sent to a server?
Your text is converted in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
